Can any bolt hide love? The verse says sorrowful tears at a loved person's pain can disclose the care within—one sign of love, not its only valid expression.

“And is there bar that can even love restrain? The tiny tear shall make the lover's secret plain.”
“Where is the bar that can close in the gates of love? The gentle tear-drops of lovers' eyes are sure to proclaim its presence.”

Is there any bolt that can lock love away and keep it hidden? There is none. When those we love are in pain, the small tears that well up in a loving person's eyes announce to everyone the love held within. Love cannot be concealed; it gives itself away.
