Parimelazhagar’s commentary

13th century · public domain

Parimelazhagar’s own words come first, unaltered. The plain reading follows below.

Parimelazhagar explicitly describes women who do not desire a male patron out of love but desire his wealth. He says their pleasant words claim love until the expected payment or gift is obtained and afterward cause him misery. This is a historically gendered and sexually stigmatizing frame, not a modern judgment on women or sex workers; the limited modern analogy concerns freely chosen counterfeit affection used to secure material gain.
