A loveless household flourishing is, the verse says, like a dried tree sprouting in barren ground. The image describes relational drought, not a diagnosis of an individual.

For the person with no love in the heart to find true wellbeing in life would be as impossible as a dried-up, sapless tree in barren ground putting forth fresh leaves. A loveless life simply cannot flower.
